duckie chickie friend

the world is full of connections. i've known that for a while. at school, dave and i used to be part of a community called The International Souphouse. it was an intentional community that spanned years, majors, continents, and graduation times. many within this group married someone else. it's sort of how i met dave. it's sort of how i got to be best friends with him.

it's also sort of how this chickie ended up in liajoy's hands. because i became friends with someone that is a friend of some of those with whom dave and then i became close to. did that make sense? probably not. basically, someone knew a friend from the souphouse. we knew that friend. she knew dave. she found lia. she started emailing me off and on.

she has the prettiest family of 3 kids, and a love of life and writing that have often cheered me up and encouraged me to keep trying, to keep having faith. so she sent a little care package of things. in it was the chickie-duckie. this is what zaya calls it. lia just likes hugging it, and staring at its face. and i'm just touched with the connectivity of the world, and that the Souphouse is still alive in our hearts.
